What is H.U.F.?

H.U.F. means Hindu Undivided Family.
An H.U.F. is a separate entity that can be created by members of a family, wherein the members are lineal ascendants or descendants.

Who can form H.U.F.?

Hindu

Jains

Sikhs

And all those who are covered under Hindu Law.

It can be formed by any family above mentioned caste. H.U.F. consists of a Head of family, i.e. Husband and all of his legal heir, i.e. his wife,unmarried son(s) and unmarried daughter(s). Thus, after forming of H.U.F., Husband is called as Karta of H.U.F.

Taxation of H.U.F.

An H.U.F. is separate Entity, therefore,it has separate PAN and has separate taxation calculations

An H.U.F. is taxed separately from its members, therefore, deductions (such as under Section 80) or exemptions allowed under the tax laws can be claimed by it separately.

A Gift from Father or Mother or Father-in-Law or Mother-in-Law of Head of Family in favour of H.U.F.
